Definitely the best kite session at Lake Lowell ever. 4 straight hours
of warm water and sunny skies... 1:00 pm 23 G 31 at 5:00 26 G 35: the
wind was like a symphony it would build to a crescendo and then
decrescendo, played the same melody all day.
Jim V. brought home a BIG GUST story:
After the rest of you left me all alone out there with the kiters...
it started to bet punchy holey, big time.
Here's what happened around 6 pm...
I was on a reach coming back from the other side of the lake towards the launch, got about a 1/4 of the way back and the wind just kept picking up and up and up... it was already rippin as it was. I would say a good 30 mph+ run, next thing I know I can see this big arch in the wind line out in front of me, now I am hitting about 35 mph+, then all of a sudden it nuked coming up to the wind line about 50 yds ahead. I then saw about three to five white caps "FOAM" right out in front of me... guess what happened next, yep I went air born on a major launch. I am gonna take a guess that the edge of gust was in the 45 mph range, maybe higher. Next thing I know I am whiping my rig back around and the wind is dead, it was maybe blowing 10 to 15 mph. I could not get up for a few minutes, then when I did I slogged for about 50 to 57 yds until there was enough wind to get me on a plane again. Needles to say at that time I had enough wind for the afternoon. It was an awesome session, 5.6 hammered down to its high wind setting, on my 109 Liter board.
