Closing Day at Turner Gulch

September 15th, 2002, capped 7 straight days of morning wind at Lucky Peak Reservoir, from a very chilly start after a late-summer cold front, building to the best day of the year on Saturday, and ending with a warm and very pleasant finish. At 10pm, the Corps of Engineers locks the gate to the road over the dam until 6am May 15, 2003, lest terrorists come and sabotage our favorite lake.

Boats can still put in at Spring Shores, I guess, but the boardheads will be faced with the hike down from the viewpoint road, and swimming out past the cliff's wind shadow. And then the hike up, afterwards...

It seemed like a nice day to commemorate with some pictures. Follow the sequence links to see larger versions and captions.
